Which form of resume is best for you will depend on a variety of factors, including
your work experience and qualifications. The three most common resume forms are: (i)
chronological resumes; (ii) functional resumes; and (iii) hybrid
Below are a few samples of each resume form and a brief description explaining which form may be best for you. For additional information, check out MailResume’s “Useful Tips”.
1. Sample Chronological Resumes
The Chronological Resume is the most common resume type. It emphasizes your work history in chronological order starting with your most recent job. The Chronological Resume is preferred for candidates with significant work experience, some vertical career movement, and/or few gaps in the candidate’s employment history.
2. Sample Functional Resumes
The functional resume is for candidates looking to highlight their skills, achievements, qualifications and/or education; while de-emphasizing their work experience. This resume form is recommended for candidates that do not have significant/relevant work experience, have taken significant time off, have changed jobs frequently and/or are looking to change careers.
3. Hybrid Resume Samples
A hybrid resume is a mix of the chronological and functional resume formats. This form highlights the candidate’s relevant achievements and skills and the candidate’s chronological work history. The hybrid resume may be preferable for candidates with: (1) relevant and continuous work history; and (2) specific skills and qualifications that directly relate to a particular job.
